Jeddah, August 04: The 20th session of the anti-dengue fever campaign launched under the aegis of Jeddah Health Affairs Management involving 55 Saudi volunteers concluded here on Monday.
The campaign “home to home” launched by Al-Nahdi Company with the cooperation of the primary health care department at Jeddah Health Affairs Management aimed at controlling the spread of the deadly fever especially in the summer season.
The campaign included sessions for educating the volunteers about the fever followed by a tour around Jeddah homes to create an awareness among residents. “Our aim is to visit a large number of homes in Jeddah to make them aware of dengue fever especially during the summer season,” said Dr. Essam Muqbel, member of the executive committee of the campaign and the main organizer.
The campaign, Muqbel said, is targeting young Saudi high school students who are to work on night shifts.
“We have specified a certain time to teach young Saudis about the latest techniques they should follow in warning people about dengue fever, the work mechanism, and how to inform people about the campaign’s goals,” added Muqbel.
Muqbel said the volunteers had visited about 700,000 houses during the last four months. The enthusiasm shown by the volunteers encouraged the Health Affairs Management to increase their number to 500, and to start another campaign soon.
The Health Affairs Management has called for more volunteers who are ready to learn several issues pertaining to dengue fever, such as, the dengue fever situation around the world generally and in the Kingdom in particular, protection techniques and the importance of interaction with people at different social levels.
Muqbel also urged more cooperation between the private sector and public sectors in order to launch effective anti-dengue fever campaigns.
