Dengue, Chikungunya spreading in Old City, cleanliness essential

Hyderabad: Dengue and Chikungunya are the dreadful diseases which are spreading in the Old City of Hyderabad. Many dengue patients are getting admitted in various hospitals.

Of late, 20-25 patients suffering from Chikungunya are also approaching area hospitals of Nampally, Barkas, Golconda and Malakpet.

The local hospitals do not have facilities to diagnose Chikungunya. The doctors are, therefore, referring the patients to Osmania or Gandhi hospital.

It may be mentioned that the private pathological laboratories charge Rs. 1300-1500 for diagnosing Chikungunya. It may be noted that GHMC has a special cell to eradicate mosquitos in which 2500 workers are employed but they do not seem to be active in eradicating mosquitos. Doctors opine that if GHMC staff take up anti-larva operations, these diseases could be checked.
