Demonetization—Troubles of Common man continue

The travails of the common man continued even on the eighth day of the demonetization of Rs.500 and Rs.1000 notes by the Centre.  Serpentine queues of people were seen at the Bank Branches in the twin cities on Wednesday.

Angry people were heard hurling choicest abuses at the Union Government and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for going ahead with demonetization without making adequate arrangements to see that the people are not put to hardships for days together, to get their notes exchanged and to get new notes from their bank accounts. They said they were not against demonetization and dealing with those having black money, but it was not fair and proper on the part of the Government to make hasty announcements and put the people to sufferings.

Some of the people said that they had to forego their daily work to get their old notes exchanged, as it is taking long hours.  They said that in many of the Banks, no additional staff was appointed to attend to the people fast. (NSS)
