Demonetisation rollout deeply flawed- Nobel winner Richard Thaler

New Delhi: Nobel laureate economist, Richard Thaler in an email said that demonetisation was deeply flawed and Rs 2,000 note “makes the motivation for the entire exercise puzzling.”
The email was received by a student, Swaraj Kumar last month, a screenshot of whose was also retweeted by the professor of the University of Chicago.

At the time of ‘India going cashless’ through demonetisation, Thaler had appreciated the scraping of old notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 but he did not think introduction of Rs 2000 note a great idea.
He had called note ban “a first step towards cashless and a good start on reducing corruption,” in a tweet earlier, but later, he had tweeted, “Really? Damn,” refering to Rs 2000 note.
