Demonetisation: November 8, 2016 is a Black day for Indian economy and democracy, says Manmohan Singh

New Delhi: Former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, had once again expressed his dissatisfaction with the Current Government’s decision to demonetise the Currency.

Mr. Manmohan Singh has referred November 8, 2016 as Black day for Indian Economy and Indian democracy.
The demonetisation of currency has caused great distress to the common man of the country and Dr. Singh has earlier called it as “monumental mismanagement.”

In his address to the businessmen and professionals of Surat in Poll-bound Gujarat, he said that “I invoke memories of more than 100 people who lost their lives while standing in queues as a result of demonetisation,” and he further added that “I say with immense pain and a sense of deep responsibility that the 8th of November was a black day for our economy and democracy.”

He further added that “In the first half of 2016-17, India’s imports from China have gone up unprecedented. Overall, as our domestic sector is not able to cope with demand, China is benefiting from this situation.”

Union Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley, earlier in the day had said that “The 10 years of governance before Modi’s govt was the most corrupt govt we have ever seen. It was a leaderless govt. It was said that the then PM is a PM in office but not in power.”

Dr. Manmohan Singh has also said that it is important to take note of the grievances of the common people before arriving at major decisions.
