Hyderabad: Cash offerings to Tirupati temple, the largest of South India, have reached 7 Cr post demonetisation. While 9.27 Cr have been collected in 8 various temples of Telangana. In the days since the government announced the withdrawal of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes to check black money on the night of November 8, cash offerings in collection pots or hundi have gone up many-fold; as the offerings to religious places are free of tax.
Although there are several big temples in Andhra Pradesh, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam is the largest of all, where 7 Cr were collected in the hundi in just 20 days. Thus 9.27 Cr were collected in various temples of Telangana since demonetisation.
