Chennai, December 07: Justice Manmohan Singh Liberhan’s conclusion that the Babri Masjid demolition in 1992 was a pre-planned act by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and the RSS is a “big lie”, said Ashok Singhal, president, VHP.
It was a spontaneous act by kar sevaks, who wanted to construct a temple in the 2.77-acre land adjacent to the mosque. But due to the delay in verdict by the Faizabad court during November 1992, the kar sevaks got frustrated, went berserk and demolished the mosque, he said. Singhal was addressing the media after the inauguration of Vishwa Hindu TV’s web studio on Saturday, along with Sri Jayendra Saraswati Swamigal, pontiff, Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham and Dr Subramanian Swamy, president, Janata Party.
He later held that calling the Babri masjid a ‘mosque’ was absurd, as according to him, no namaz (daily prayers) had been offered at the place since 1934. Only solution to the dispute is to bring in legislation in Parliament for the construction of not just a Ram temple at Ayodhya, but also at Mathura and Varanasi.
