Demolition activities in Bandlaguda, several families stranded

Hyderabad, April 7: During his visit to Barkas area under Rachchabanda programme Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy had announced house construction for poors in this area but perhaps the officials might have heard ‘destruction’ instead of ‘construction’ hence they acted upon it yesterday.

In the nearby area where the CM had announced house construction revenue officials demolished the houses and shops belonging to poor people in the early hours of Wednesday.

Houses and shops are situated in the area opposite Mairaj Garden, Bandlaguda X roads for nearly 30 to 40 years but never did revenue officials think that it was the government land. But suddenly claiming the land to be government’s bulldozers were run over the construction on Wednesday and in a short while the houses and shops turned into debris.

Local people say that the land does not belong to the government that is the reason why the houses and shops were allotted numbers and water and electricity connection was provided. If it was government’s land then why didn’t the revenue official stop the departments from allotting numbers and providing water and electricity connection?

The residents were not even fully awake when the bulldozers were run over their houses. According to an estimate items worth lakhs of rupees were damaged. Residents were not even permitted to take out there belongings before their houses were demolished.

Nearly 200 people were stranded. The locals have to say that even if the land belongs to the government, the government should have negotiated with the residents before taking the one-sided action.
