Democracy on the crossroad: Gadkari hints at RAM BHAKT Delhi govt

This is a government of ‘Ram bhakts’ (Ram devotees), heard reportedly from BJP MP and Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari at a function in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, which sparked off a row.

After inaugurating the Ram-Janki Marg, a road project that will connect the holy town with Janakpur in Nepal, the minister was quoted as saying on a news website,

“From Ayodhya to Chitrakoot, this is a government of Ram bhakts, of those who chant Jai Shri Ram,” the minister was quoted as saying on a news website.

Earlier, Sakshi Maharaj, BJP MP from Unnao sparked controversy saying that Hindu women should produce at least four children to save their religion.

Before Sakshi, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, a BJP MP at a rally asked the voters to choose between “those born to Ram or those born illegitimately”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, miffed at the comments and asked the MPs not to ‘cross Lakshman Rekha’.
