Sanaa, June 16: Dozens of soldiers demobilised after a ceasefire with northern Shiite rebels in February demonstrated in south Yemen on Tuesday demanding better treatment by the authorities, witnesses said.
The protesters blocked a road in the Radfan district of Lahij province, south of Sanaa, and set tyres alight.
At least two people were wounded when the police intervened to break up the demonstration, the witnesses said.
A truce was signed between Sanaa and the Zaidi Shiite rebels on February 12, following an all-out offensive the government launched against them last August in a bid to eradicate their five-year revolt.
Residents of the restive south, who complain of discrimination by the Sanaa government in the allocation of resources, hold frequent protests.
