Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy told the Assembly demand for power this year had been very high due to continuous dry-spell in the state leading to increased demand from agriculture and domestic sectors. The Chief Minister’s statement was circulated to the media after he could not read it in the House. The Assembly staff circulated it to the members on the Speaker’s direction following uproar by TRS members on the telangana issue.
Mr Reddy said the demand was growing every passing day with the current power demand during September 2012 at 264 MU per day as against 244 MU last year registering an increase of 8.2 per cent. He said the demand from April 2012 to August 2012 was 40,148 MU against 35,945 MU for the corresponding period last year registering an increase of 11.9 per cent. The Chief Minister said discoms were supplying around 215 MU per day with a deficit of 49 MU per day during this month. From April 2012 to August 2012, Discoms have supplid 34485 MU against a requirement of 40148 MU with a deficit of 13.9 per cent, he said and added despite capacity addition of 5311 MW in the state during the last seven years, there is power deficit in the state.
