Demand to make Urdu Compulsory in all the Govt. Schools- Abid Rasool Khan

General Secretary of Congress Party, Mr. Abid Rasool Khan met Mr. N.Kiran Kumar Reddy, C.M. of A.P. and demanded that Urdu should be made compulsory in all the Govt., Aided, Private, Telugu and English medium schools.

He requested the C.M. to issue necessary orders to the schools. He said that C.M. has permitted to teach Telugu as a compulsory subject which he said he welcomes. However, it is the responsibility of the Govt. to take steps to promote Urdu. After issuing the orders for teaching Telugu unrest has been created among the Urdu speakers that injustice is being done to their mother tongue Urdu.

It is, therefore, necessary for the Govt. to issue instructions to the managements of Telugu and English medium schools for teaching Urdu as a second language. He told that he has already spoken to the managements of these educational institutions. They are prepared to teach Urdu as a second language in their schools. It is, therefore, the responsibility of the Govt. to bear the expenses of Urdu teachers of such schools. He pointed out that for organizing International Telugu Conference, Official Language Commission was constituted but the formation of Urdu Academy was stopped. By appointing Chairman and Directors of Urdu Academy, its activities would increase. He lamented that day-by-day the number of Urdu medium Govt. schools is dwindling.
