Demand for amnesty to Sikh hijackers in Kashmir

A Sikh delegation today met Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and demanded general amnesty to Sikhs of Kashmir involved in the 1984 Indian Airlines plane hijack case, as was done in case of separatist leader Hashim Qureshi.

“We demanded general amnesty to 6 Sikh hijackers as done in case of Hashim Qureshi and a fresh probe in Chittisinghpora massacre under a timeframe and a central authority for providing state subject status on par with Kashmiri migrants”, All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) Chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina told reporters here.

The APSCC delegation handed over a memorandum of demands to Chidambaram.

Daleep Singh and Gurdeep Singh of Noushera, Ramol Singh, Harvinder Singh of Jammu and Karan Singh of Budgam had
hijacked an Indian Airlines plane which took off from Srinagar airport and took it to Pakistan in 1984 during Sikh militancy in Punjab. They were arrested and sentenced there and have now completed their jail term.

The delegation also raised demands for an employment package and extension of Minority Act to J&K.

“If our demands are not met, we will be forced to come on the roads in all parts of J&K for our legitimate rights
under the constitution”, Rana said.
