Mumbai, January 28: A 65-year-old man was killed when the speeding motorcycle of a McDonald’s delivery boy hit him at Cuffe Parade.
Identified as Kamlesh Gupta, 21, the boy was in a hurry to deliver an order, the police said.
The incident occurred around 10.30pm near Budhwar Park. The deceased, Tukaram Laxman Pawar who had shifted to the area recently, was walking towards home.
“When the delivery boy reached the Budhwar Park junction, he hit Pawar, who was crossing the road. Even thought the bike was not in high speed, Pawar sustained grievous injuries,” said police sub-inspector Kishore Pawar of Cuffe Parade police station.
In his statement to the police, Gupta said that it was dark and Pawar suddenly came in front of the vehicle. He added that he took Pawar to St George Hospital for treatment.
Pawar succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday. The hospital authorities then informed the police about the incident.
“We went to the hospital and arrested Gupta on charges of negligent driving. He was granted bail by a local court. Relatives of Pawar identified the body,” said police inspector Vilas Bhole.
