New Delhi: The Delhi Police said on Tuesday that it has rescued a 19-year-old woman, allegedly sold by her grandmother and arrested four persons including the grandmother.
The arrested accused have been identified as Shahjahana, 58, grandmother of the girl and a resident of Nand Nagari area in north east Delhi, Lilu, 30, Ramveer, 35 and Chintaram, 45, all residents of Dadri in Uttar Pradesh, police said.
According to police, the mother of the woman had filed a case against her maternal aunt for selling her daughter on September 4. Her mother had left her daughter with them and had gone to Jaipur.
“The woman in her statement to the police said that on the day of Janmashtami her maternal grandmother took her to one of her associates. They then took her to Chaar Khambha Nand Nagri area, where three boys were present and they had whispered talks with her Naani after which she was taken by them to Gautam Budh Nagar,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (north east) A. K. Singla told reporters.
The woman was forcefully married to the accused Lilu, a senior police officer linked to the probe told IANS.
“The woman was raped by Lilu at his house and when she opposed him, he said that he had bought her for Rs one lakh from her grandmother Shahjahan,” Singla said.
A case has been registered under sections 376 (rape), 343 (Wrongful confinement for three or more days), 366 (Kidnapping), 323 (Voluntarily Causing Hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), police said.
