New Delhi: After a wait of two months, the Delhi government on Monday reconstituted the Delhi Waqf Board. Revenue Department issued a notification reconstituting the Delhi Waqf Board with the approval of Delhi Revenue Minister Kailash Gahlot. AAP MLA and its former chairman Amanatullah Khan has been appointed as a member of the board again. He is likely to be given the post of chairman of the Board. Earlier he had held the post of chairman for nearly six months. But he had resigned in September 2016 after allegations of irregularities.
Other Board members include Himal Akhtar, a member of the Delhi State Bar Council, Choudhary Shareef Ahmed as an elected member, while Razia Sultana, Naeem Fatima Kazmi and Amjad Tak have been appointed as nominated members of the Board.
It must be noted that the Delhi Waqf Board had been dissolved in 2016 over allegations of corruption. It oversees the management of over 2,000 Waqf properties including land parcels, residential buildings, shops and graveyards in and around Delhi and utilizes the funds for the welfare of Muslims.
