New Delhi: On Saturday evening, a triple murder was reported from the Brahmapuri area in Delhi. A 50-year-old woman and her two daughters, aged 19 and 9, were found dead in their home in northeast Delhi.
The murders were discovered after neighbours complained to the police of an intolerable stench emanating from the house, which was locked from inside.
The victims have been identified as Saira (50), and her daughters (19) and Shabnam (9). The police found Saira’s throat slit with a sharp weapon, and multiple stab injuries on all three victims. Prima facie, the police said they had died at least three days before they were discovered.
Following the incident, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took to Twitter to call out Prime Minister Narendra Modi and accused Lt Governor Najeeb Jung of inefficiency.
Saira was reportedly involved in a property dispute with the family of her deceased husband’s second wife.
While Saira and her daughters lived in the first floor of the house, the ground floor was rented out to a man, who is missing for the past four days. Some relatives have been questioned and CCTV grabs obtained from the locality are being checked.
Efforts are on to trace the missing tenant, according to a senior police official.
