Delhi: Traffic Police officers to get hi-tech bikes

New Delhi: To halt the increasing traffic violations by all ages with their driving the Delhi Traffic Police is all set to get hi-tech bikes to warn the violators before catching up with them to issue them challans. These hi-tech bikes will be used for patrolling road stretches which have lane violations along with checking bike stunts and speeding violations in central Delhi.

According to the Sources, nearly 550 Apache and Pulsar motorcycles have been sanctioned to the Delhi Traffic Police with each traffic circle allotted one bike for patrolling at busy intersections.

These bikes will further be modified with LED strobe lights, warning hooters and a hands-free megaphone’s to alert the drivers violating traffic rules or skipping the stop line or even found conversing on the phone while on the move. These bikes will also have sidearm and cameras to record the violations. The uniforms will also be modified with blinkers fixed on them to be visible during the foggy days and nights.

Each traffic circle will be allotted one bike for patrol duty at busy intersections.

Traffic Special Commissioner Dependra Pathak said, “The plan has been approved and the process to overhaul the bikes is in the process. Patrolling on such bikes will commence within a few months”.

The rider’s helmets are also modified with headphones and hands-free devices connected to loud-hailers to direct traffic in case of congestion, especially during events and festivals.

These vehicles will also carry boxes and high-end communication systems to direct diversions. GPS will be installed in these bikes to help the senior officers track their positions.

The Police officers say riding the bikes to catch the violators is much easier than driving a four-wheeler.

The Delhi Police said it has also planned to introduce a first response system which will be attached to the police control room in which these bikes will be modified to enter small lanes.
