Delhi slum demolition: AAP, TMC to protest outside Parliament

New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday gave an adjournment motion notice in the Lok Sabha over the Shakur Basti demolition issue and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has sought an appointment with Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu.

AAP MPs will also be protesting at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi outside the Parliament and they will be joined by the Trinamool Congress (TMC).

“Trinamool gives notice in RS to bring up #ShakurBasti demolition in #parliament Will also join @AamAadmiParty outside Parliament at 10.30,” TMC leader Derek O’Brien tweeted today.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Government has ordered magisterial enquiries into the demolition and also the death of a six month-old child.

Separate probes will be conducted into demolition drive and the child’s death.

More than 500 slums were demolished in an anti-encroachment drive conducted by the Indian Railways in Shakur Basti on Saturday.

Slum residents created an uproar after a child was found dead. They alleged that then child had died in the anti-encroachment drive.

The Railways have, however, denied the allegations saying that the death of the child occurred in one of the slums around 10 am and had nothing to do with the removal of encroachments. (ANI)
