Delhi set to charge Swami with Samjhota train blast

New Delhi, June 20: Indian authorities are shortly expected to file a chargesheet against Hindutva leader Swami Aseemanand and others in the 2007 Samjhota Express blast, where 43 Pakistani nationals were among the 68 killed.

India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) had taken over the probe in 2010, and arrested Aseemanand in last December, reported Times of India on Sunday.

The move comes less than a week ahead of the foreign secretary-level talks between India and Pakistan. NIA’s investigation into the Samjhota train attack may give Pakistan a handle to embarrass India. Indian officials are wary of the possibility of Islamabad asking for Aseemanand’s custody once he is chargesheeted.
