Delhi polls: Bukhari appeals for support to AAP

Jama Masjid’s former shahi imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari has appealed to Muslims to support the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in tomorrow’s assembly polls to help form a secular government in Delhi.

“Appeal to all Muslims to support AAP candidates and help in forming a secular government in Delhi,” Bukhari told ANI.

The religious leader had endorsed the Congress Party during the Lok Sabha polls last year, which saw the party routed after 10 years in power.

The Aam Aadmi Party, which is optimistic about forming the government in Delhi, is believed to be in a direct fight with the Bharatiya Janata Party this time.

The AAP, which has come up with several promises this time for the betterment of Delhi, has also found support from the All India Imam Association (AIIA), West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and CPI (M) general secretary Prakash Karat.

A total of 673 candidates are in the fray for the 70-member Delhi Assembly. Delhi goes to polls on February 7, while the results will be declared on February 10. (ANI)
