Delhi Police officer ends life by jumping before Metro

New Delhi: A 52-year-old Assistant Sub-Inspector of Delhi Police on Wednesday allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a Metro train.

The deceased police officer, Hansraj Barala, who stayed with his family in Om Vihar Phase-III of Uttam Nagar in west Delhi, committed suicide at around 11.30 a.m by jumping before a Metro train at Uttam Nagar West station.

“Hansraj Barala was diagnosed with stomach tuberculosis (TB) some three months ago. He was undergoing treatment. Due to his ailment, he was on medical leave since last month,” a senior police officer said.

He was taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital where he was pronounced dead, the officer said.

A suicide note was recovered from his possession in which he wrote that his illness was the reason for his suicide, the officer said.

He is survived by two sons and a daughter, he said.
