New Delhi, July 12: Five are feared dead and at least 15 persons were injured while some others are feared trapped under the debris when an under-construction bridge of the Delhi Metro collapsed in South Delhi early on Sunday morning.
The incident was reported from near Lady Shri Ram College in Zamroodpur near Lajpat Nagar around 0500 hrs IST.
Delhi Metro spokesperson Anuj Dayal said seven persons were injured in the incident, while eyewitnesses pegged the figure at over 11. The injured have been rushed to the AIIMS.
Dayal said it was “a structural collapse and we are investigating the matter.”
The under-construction bridge fell on a water pipeline which led to some flooding in the area. An eyewitness said 20-25 labourers were working on the site.
In a similar incident in October last year, two persons were killed and 16 others injured when a portion of an under-construction bridge of the Delhi Metro collapsed and fell on a bus on Vikas Marg in East Delhi’s Lakshmi Nagar area.
