New Delhi: A 19-year-old medical aspirant from Bihar was arrested by Delhi Police for impersonating as AIIMS doctor over the past few months.
The accused, Adnan Khurram has been impersonating as AIIMS practicing doctor for the past five months using a fake identity.
The young medical aspirant used to roam around in the hospital wearing his lab coat and a stethoscope. He also participated in various events for doctors, increased his friends circle across various departments and medical students.
It was when the doctors asked about his identity during the marathon did they become suspicious of Khurram. When they asked him, he did not give them a satisfactory reply for which the doctors informed the Police.
According to the Police, they were surprised by Khurram’s knowledge of medicines, names of Department heads and Doctors of AIIMS. He also had a diary which is specifically issued to doctors working there.
When the Police interrogated Khurram he said he had impersonated to help one of his ailing family member get proper treatment.
Romil Baaniya, Deputy commissioner of police (south zone) said they arrested him on Saturday and charged Khurram under sections 419 (impersonation) and 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) of the IPC.
RDA president Harjit Singh said he had been observing Khurram’s activities over the past one month after he grew suspicious about his identity.
He said since AIIMS has as many as 2000 resident doctors, it was hard to remember the names of all the doctors.
“He would roam around wearing the lab coat and stethoscope all the time. We found out that he had made different claims to different doctors. To some, he would claim that he was a junior resident doctor while to junior resident doctors, he would introduce himself as an undergraduate medical student. He had even made his way to the WhatsApp groups,” said Singh.
However, the police said Khurram had no criminal record and that he was hailing from Bihar and lived in Batla house.
