New Delhi: In the wake of a spurt in dengue and chikungunya cases, Lt Governor Najeeb Jung on Wednesday reviewed the condition of garbage dumps and directed municipal corporations to regularly collect the waste and keep the surrounding areas clean.
He said that officials from Raj Niwas will regularly inspect the garbage dumps in the national capital and asked the civic agencies to pull up their socks.
Jung inspected the garbage dumps at Angoori Khatta, Asaf Ali Road and Bela Road and officials from the Lt Governor’s Secretariat visited 17 garbage disposal sites in the city.
The LG office in a statement said that after inspecting the garbage dumps, he directed MCD officers “to ensure regular operations of waste collection and removal”. He also asked them to keep the surrounding areas clean and sanitised to check the breeding of mosquito larvae.
Such visits will continue in the coming days, the statement said.
The Special Secretary to the LG, along with Deputy Commissioner and Additional Commissioner of MCD, visited the Nanak Pyao garbage dump, it said.
At least 34 people have died due to chikungunya and dengue which have affected close to 4,000 people in the city.
