Delhi L-G imposes ESMA on DTC

New Delhi: The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Anil Baijal has imposed Essential Service Maintenance Act which will prohibit Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) workers from agitating for the next six months.

Baijal, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him under Section 3 read with 4A of Haryana Essential Service Maintenance Act 1974 (Haryana Act No.40 of 1974) as extended to NCT of Delhi has declared the DTC services as Essential Services and prohibits strike agitation by contractual employees.

The governor’s declaration has also been notified to all the officers and employees of DTC, therefore, all the employees including the contractual employees have been directed to report to their units or depot for duty, failing which strict action will be taken against them.

The contractual employees were on a strike demanding Equal Work Equal Pay, certainty in jobs, and revocation of termination of eight employees.
