Delhi High Court extends P Chidambaram’s arrest relief

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has extended the interim protection from the arrest that was granted to former Union Minister P Chidambaram till August 1 today.

Justice A K Pathak extended the relief who had earlier granted the protection to Chidambaram till July 3, which was opposed by the CBI which stated the former minister should have approached a lower court for relief first rather than High Court, News18 reported.

The High Court had earlier asked Chidambaram to co-operate in the investigation as and when called by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Chidambaram in his anticipatory bail plea stated he was being harassed in the case in which he was not named.

The senior Congress leader had rushed to a trial court for protection against the arrest warrant in Aircel-Maxis case of the Enforcement Directorate on May 30 before approaching the High Court.

It was during his tenure as Finance Minister that the FIPB clearance was granted in which alleged irregularities have been found by the Government.
