The Delhi High Court has asked the Centre to expedite the process of filling the vacant posts of the Chief Information Commissioner and three Information Commissioners at the Central Information Commission ( CIC ), citing backlog of cases.
According to reports, a bench comprising of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Deepa Sharma on Thursday further directed the Centre to inform it of progress with regards to the same by May 11.
Meanwhile, Additional Solicitor General Sanjay Jain has reportedly sought 12 weeks’ time to finalise the appointments, informing the court that they have received that they have received 203 applications for the Chief Information Commissioner post, while 535 people have applied for the three Information Commissioner posts.
The post of the Chief Information Commissioner lies vacant after Rajiv Mathur resigned in August 2014. (ANI)
