Delhi HC seeks EC’s reply on petition against AIMIM

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Friday sought a reply from the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) on a petition seeking de-registration of the political party. The court has sought the reply by December 3.

The petition which has been filed by Shiv Sena party chief of Telangana Tirupati Narasimha Murari, sought issuance of appropriate order or direction, quashing the order dated June 19, 2014, passed by ECI, granting AIMIM recognition of a state political party.

The petition also accused the AIMIM of seeking votes on the grounds of religion, which is prohibited under Section 123 of Representation of the People Act.

The counsel for AIMIM opposed the plea and called it an abuse of the process of law.
Questioning the content of the petition, the court asked, “These allegations are neither necessary nor permissible. Don’t use the courtroom for this platform. We will not permit.”
