New Delhi: The Delhi high court on Thursday issued a notice to the Delhi Police seeking their response on Suhaib Ilyasi’s plea challenging his conviction and life imprisonment. Suhaib Ilyasi, a former TV anchor and producer, was convicted for killing his wife Anju 18 years ago.
A bench comprising of justices S Muralidhar and IS Mehta issued a notice to the police on Ilyasi’s plea. Further hearing will be held on April 4.
After his conviction, Ilyasi was taken into custody on December 16 last year. He was represented by senior advocate Siddharth Luthra.
It must be recalled that on December 20, 2017, the trial court sentenced Ilyasi to life term for stabbing his wife to death, saying he “committed murder and gave it a colour of suicide”. A fine of Rs 2 lakh was also imposed on him and he was also directed to pay Rs 10 lakh as compensation to Anju’s parents.
In his appeal, Ilyasi has challenged his conviction and also sought suspension of his sentence till pendency of his appeal.
Ilyasi had shot into limelight after hosting the TV crime show ‘India’s Most Wanted.’
