Delhi has chilly New Year’s eve, cold day ahead (Second Lead)

It was a chilly New Year’s eve Tuesday in the national capital with the minimum temperature settling three notches below average at 4 degrees Celsius. The Met Office has forecast a foggy, cold New Year’s day.

“A partly cloudy sky is likely to become clear during the day. Some fog is expected in the morning,” said an official of the India Meteorological Department.

Tuesday’s maximum temperature was recorded three notches below average at 17.6 degrees Celsius.

The national capital recorded rainfall of 6.4 mm since Monday.

According to Northern Railways, at least seven trains were cancelled and four were rescheduled due to fog in the northern plains of the country. However, flight operations from Delhi’s airports remained unaffected.

Wednesday’s maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 17 degrees Celsius and 7 degrees Celsius respectively, making it a warmer night.

Monday’s maximum temperature was recorded at 19.7 degrees Celsius, one notch below the season’s average, while the minimum temperature settled at 2.4 degrees Celsius, five notches below average.
