New Delhi: With mudslinging between Aam Aadmi Party and the Centre escalating over the alleged Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) scam, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in a Facebook post on Thursday said ‘the level of public discourse was being lowered by the Delhi Government and its supporters’.
Hitting out at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for using ‘vulgar’ language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Jaitley said, “People in positions are expected to act with restraint. They cannot be outlandish. Vulgarity is not a right available to them.”
“What about the statements made by the Honourable Delhi Chief Minster about Prime Minister and others, both inside and outside Delhi Assembly? If any functionary of the Government of India were to use such language, it would witness a nationwide outrage,” he added.
In an apparent reference to suspended BJP MP Kirti Azad, the Finance Minister said that some months ago a few members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made statements which were not appreciated even by the Party.
“The Party President cautioned them and advised them to refrain from making such statements. The result of the caution are visible,” he added.
BJP MP Kirti Azad, lawmaker and former Test cricketer, was suspended by his party the BJP for publicly targeting Finance Minister Arun Jaitley with allegations of corruption in Delhi’s cricket body DDCA.
In a one-line statement, the BJP said Mr Azad has been suspended for “anti-party activities.”
Azad has been served a 24 line suspension order by the BJP. The lawmaker has been charged with anti party activities. (ANI)
