Delhi Govt. introduces mechanical road sweepers

The Delhi Government introduced mechanical road sweepers in the national capital to effectively control air pollution and keep the city clean.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated the service here today.

The mechanical sweeping machines are the initiative of the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) aimed at effectively clean the roads of the city and reduce the exposure of dust and dirt particles to manual sweepers.

The machines are equipped with water sprinklers which effectively remove the soil and dirt from the roads, ensuring that the minute particulate matter do not spread in the air.

Speaking at the occasion, Kejriwal said that through the initiative it would be ensured that not a single road in the NDMC region is left dirty.

Kejriwal added that the machines would be used on trial basis for the first few months, before being spread across the city.

“If the new initiative of the NDMC, the mechanical suckers, proves to be successful in the coming months then the services of the machines would be extended to all the roads under the PWD (Public Works Department). But there is a condition: not a single person must lose their job,” said Kejriwal.

The NDMC have installed a total of eight mechanical sweeping machines, in addition to the two which were introduced last year. (ANI)
