Delhi Govt deploys boats as precautionary measure

New Delhi: Anticipating swelling up of Yamuna river due to discharge of large volume of water from Hathni Kund Barrage in Haryana, Delhi government has deployed 18 motor boats as a precautionary measure to evacuate riverbed dwellers.

The Irrigation and Flood Control department of the city government issued the order for deployment of motor boats in areas including Badarpur, Burari, Soniya Vihar, Jagatpur, Surghar Wazirpur, Boat Club, Geeta Colony, shamshan ghaat, Haithi Ghaat, Chilla Village, Mayur Vihar, Batla House, Kalindi Kunj and Bawana Nehar. It also directed that the boats be not shifted from these locations till further orders.

“Since the evening of July 16, 106970 cusec water is being released from Hathni Kund Barrage and there is every likelihood of Yamuna bed being flooded and the residents of the Yamuna bed will have to be evacuated to safer locations along the Yamuna Pusta,” the order said
