Delhi gang-rape accused Vinay Sharma beaten in jail, says lawyer

Vinay Sharma, one of the five adult men accused of raping a physiotherapy student on a moving bus in the national capital in December last year, was produced at the fast track court hearing the case with a fractured right hand on Friday.

Sharma”s defence counsel, A P Singh, informed that his client was physically assaulted by other inmates and police officials at Delhi”s Tihar Jail.

“Last night, when the accused left the court and went back to Tihar Jail, there he was brutally assaulted by the other inmates and police officials. They physically assaulted him, his whole body has injury marks and his right hand is fractured,” he said.

The advocate has now moved a petition in the court requesting for the transfer of the accused to another prison.

Ram Singh, the driver of the bus in which the 23-year-old physiotherapist student was gang-raped by him and his five associates, including a minor, was brutally raped and tortured by six men, was found hanging in his cell in Tihar Jail last month.

Jail authorities had then said that Ram Singh had committed suicide, but his family alleged that he had been murdered.

The medical student, was brutally raped and assaulted in a moving bus on the night of December 16, 2012. She died of her injuries on December 29, 2012 in the multi-specialty Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore.

Her male friend, who was accompanying her that day, was also assaulted by the accused and both of them were thrown out of the bus. (ANI)
