Delhi fire: Court sends factory owner to police custody

New Delhi: A court here on Wednesday sent the owner of a plastics factory, where a major fire killed 17 persons last week, to police custody till January 29.

Metropolitan Magistrate Jitender Pratap Singh allowed the Delhi Police to question Manoj Jain, who was arrested on Saturday night.

Police said that Jain was the factory owner in association with Lalit Goel.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday ordered a thorough probe into the tragedy and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the next of the kin of the deceased.

As many as 17 people, including 10 women, were burnt to death or asphyxiated and 30 others injured in the fire in the plastics warehouse in west Delhi’s Bawana on Saturday evening.
