New Delhi: A 28-year-old woman who could see no cure for her two-year-old daughter’s prolonged illness, allegedly strangled her and then hanged herself at her residence in west Delhi’s Rajouri Garden area, police said on Tuesday.
The deceased woman, Vidhi Chopra, also left behind a suicide note in which she accepted killing her daughter, Gunnor, who was suffering from an illness since birth, said a senior police official.
The incident was reported on Monday night when Vidhi’s husband, Pradeep, returned back from his office at Ghaziabad around 10 PM and found the door locked from inside. When his calls also went unanswered, he looked inside through a window and found his wife hanging from a ceiling fan in the room, police said.
Pradeep raised an alarm and soon broke open the door with the help of neighbours. They also saw the child lying motionless on the floor, not very far from her mother’s body, hanging from the ceiling fan with a stole.
The police was informed and both Vidhi and her daughter were rushed to a hospital where they were declared brought dead.
Vidhi’s suicide note, which was written in Hindi, revealed that she was in depression due to her daughter’s illness which continued although she was taken to several doctors over time. She also expressed her wish to be cremated along with her daughter and that her husband was not to be harassed for their deaths, said an official privy to the investigation.
Police sent both the bodies for post mortem examination after which they were handed over to the relatives.
