New Delhi : A Delhi Court on Friday acquitted Maoist ideologue Kobad Ghandy of all charges against him under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
Ghandy will continue to remain in jail as he has 14 cases pending against him.
Sixty five-year-old Ghandy, a member of the Communist Party of India (Maoist), was arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police in 2009 for allegedly being a member of the banned group and furthering its activities in violation of the UAPA.
As per reports, Ghandy was facing prosecution in around 20 criminal and ‘terror’ cases in different parts of the country.
He was a part of the top leadership of the banned organisation and was accused of trying to set up a base for the CPI (Maoist).
He was allegedly a Central Committee member of the CPI (Maoist) after the merger with People’s War Group and was reportedly elected to the Maoist Politburo in 2007.
He had gone underground after the merger of the Communist Party of India (Marxist Leninist), the People’s War Group and the Maoist Communist Centre of India in 2004 when the CPI (Maoist) came into existence. (ANI)
