Delhi CLP endorses proposal to split MCD

New Delhi, April 13: Giving a thumbs up to Delhi Government’s move to split the MCD, Congress Legislature Party in the city today endorsed the proposal of dividing the civic agency into five smaller bodies to improve its functioning.

There was near unanimity in the CLP meeting, presided over by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, about the government’s move to split the MCD but no agreement was arrived at on whether the number of wards should be increased to 408 or it should remain at 272.

“Only two MLAs out of the 35 present in the meeting opposed the move to split the MCD,” said a senior party leader who attended the meeting.

Six MLAs could not attend the meeting due to personal reasons while Yoganand Shastri and Amrish Gautam did not attend the meeting as they are holding constitutional posts of Speaker and deputy speaker.
