Delhi: Class 9 student commits suicide over pressure from school teachers

New Delhi: A 15-year-old class 9 student of Ahlcon Public School reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence in Noida.

Parents of the victim Ishika Raghav Shah allege that their daughter took the extreme step due to harassment from school teachers and also for scoring fewer marks in her examination.

According to the initial reports, Ishika was alone at her Noida residence on Tuesday when her parents went out. When the girl’s parent returned they found Ishika’s door locked from inside around 6 pm. On breaking the door open they found their daughter hanging from the ceiling. Though Ishika was rushed to a nearby Kailasha hospital she could not be revived.

Doctor of Kailasha Hospital said, “15-year-old girl was brought to us, on arrival her pulse and blood pressure were un-recordable, we tried to revive her but couldn’t. Cause of death can be known after postmortem.”

Ishika’s parent blames their school authorities for Ishika’s death, Ishika’s father said: “She (Ishika) told me that her Social Studies (SST) teachers touch her inappropriately. He said, “I said since I’m also a teacher I can say they can’t do it, might be a mistake but she said, ‘I’m scared of them,no matter how well I write they’ll fail me.’ Ultimately they failed her in SST. School killed her.”

While Ikisha’s mother alleges that her daughter complained about her two teachers who would repeatedly scold her and also refused to go to school.

The girl’s family has now lodged an FIR against the two teachers.

“Father has alleged that her daughter was harassed by two school teachers & failed her in exams intentionally. Case registered under sections 306 and 506 IPC and POCSO Act, further investigation is underway. Our officers will also visit the school today,” said Arun K Singh, SP, City Noida, DC reports.

Meanwhile, the school’s Principal assured cooperation in the probe. He said, “It’s an unfortunate incident. School has been following promotion policies of CBSE. Let me make it clear that she had not failed, a re-test was scheduled. We will cooperate with probe agencies.”
