Delhi chief secretary issue must not be politicised: Rijiju

Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday said that the chief secretary issue should not be politicised and added that both Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung must resolve the matter together.

“Home Minister Rajnath Singh has already suggested that Delhi Chief Minister and the Lieutenant Governor must resolve the issue among themselves. However, this shouldn’t be made into a political issue,” said Rijiju.

On Tuesday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal met President Pranab Mukherjee amid the ongoing impasse between the city administration and Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung’s office over a series of bureaucratic appointments.

The Lieutenant Governor had also met President Mukherjee later in the day.

Jung had appointed senior bureaucrat Shakuntala Gamlin as the acting chief secretary despite strong opposition from Kejriwal.

The Kejriwal Government, however, had levelled serious allegations against Gamlin accusing her of being extremely close to power distribution companies in Delhi. Kejriwal also sent her a letter asking her not to take up the post as her appointment was against rules. (ANI)
