Khammam, April 14: Dejected over non-installation of former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s statue during Kadapa MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s visit to the village, a person from Mandalalapurpalli in Khammam district committed suicide today.
The deceased, Venkatesh (50), was thrilled to see Jagan Mohan Reddy when he came to Mandalalapurpali as part of his ongoing Odarpu yatra.
After Jagan left the village, Venkatesh committed suicide by consuming pesticide.
“Venkatesh, a hardcore loyalist of Rajasekhara Reddy, was annoyed with the local Congress leaders as they did not take the initiative to install the statue of his favourite leader. This made him disheartened and he committed suicide,’’ a local villager said.
Meanwhile, another loyalist P Anand threatened to commit suicide by jumping from a cell tower if Jagan did not come back to the village and meet him.
Meanwhile, pro-Telangana activists burnt Jagan Mohan Reddy in effigy and threatened to stall his tour at Manguru town.
