Mohali: Following the exit of Pakistan from the ongoing World Twenty20, a dejected Shahid Afridi on Friday said that he is not fit to continue as captain but insisted that he still felt fit enough to carry on playing at the highest level.
Australia eliminated Pakistan out of the T20 pinnacle event after defeating Afridi’s side by 21 runs in their penultimate league game in Mohali.
“I will announce it (retirement) in my country. Whatever is better for the country, I will go with that. I will see my form. There is pressure, media pressure. As a player, I am fit. As a captain, I am not fit,” said the flamboyant all-rounder at the post-match ceremony.
Afridi holds the record for taking most number of wickets in the history of T20 format with 97 scalps.
Earlier, Afridi had suggested that he could draw curtains on his two-decade international career after the World T20. (ANI)
