Dehradun: 18 YO set on fire by stalker, dies after suffering 80% burn injuries

Dehradun: The 18-year-old girl who was set ablaze by her stalker six days ago and had suffered 80% burn injuries in Pauri district breathed her last yesterday in New Delhi’s Safrdarjung hospital.

The additional Director General of Police (law and order), Ashok Kumar confirmed the death said, “The girl was in an extremely critical condition. She passed away during treatment on Sunday morning.”

Kumar said section 320 (murder) will now be added against the accused who was earlier booked under 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The victim was returning after giving her Bsc second year practical examination when the accused Manoj Singh, a local taxi driver allegedly set her on fire, TOI reports.

According to sources the accused is a married man and started stalking the victim for an illicit relationship. Frustrated over the victim’s rejection, he doused her with petrol and set her on fire on December 16.

The Police arrested the accused on the same day when he committed the crime.

The victim was rushed to Pauri district hospital from where she was referred to Srinagar medical college on the same day but was later shifted to AIIMS Rishikesh.

The girl was then airlifted to Delhi for treatment on the directions of chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat who had visited her at AIIMS Rishikesh on December 18.
