Apparently peeved at defections and failure to curb the same despite tall promises by leadership of respective parties, some political parties have adopted wait and watch policy.
While the election notification for Telangana was released on Wednesday, major political parties are in no mood to disclose their lists of candidates. This was due to “wait and watch policy” being adopted by them to checkmate the defections as only four weeks are left for general elections. While the Indian National Congress is no exception to this strategy, other major parties like Telugu Desam Party, TRS and BJP are too in a similar mood. Indeed they are reluctant to come out with details of the lists.
Hectic parleys and persistent exercise by the leadership of respective parties were on for quite some time. After BJP national leader Prakash Javadekar’s confabulations, TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu is understood to have reluctantly gave his nod for giving about 45 MLA seats and 8 MP seats in Telangana State to the saffron party. Besides, the TDP is reportedly ready to offer 15 MLA seats and 3 MP seats in the Seemandhra region for the BJP which sought 28 MLA seats and 8 MP seats.
On the other hand, the Congress which failed to have a truck with the TRS as its chief K Chandrasekhar Rao remained firm on his stand, is now looking at the CPI in the Telagnana region. Interestingly, with no other go, the Congress seems to have gone a step ahead to offer one MP seat and nine MLA seats to CPI, which actually sought 15 MLA seats and 3 MP seats.
According to the information, CPI State Secretary Dr K Narayana, who is eying national politics now after bifurcation of the State is likely to contest from Khammam Lok Sabha constituency. While MIM is likely to extend support to the Congress, the Congress is expecting to gain in the elections through sharing of seats with the CPI. As the CPM, Lok Satta and other parties have just a few seats to reckon either the Congress or the TD are not worried to have alliance with. It is being stated that the AICC leadership was ready to announce the list of candidates, but deliberately adopting a wait and watch policy only to check the defection. Since bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh compelled many leaders to switch loyalties to Telugu Desam, YSRCP and TRS in Seemandhra and Telangana respectively, the Congress is dilly dallying on the lists to be announced.
