Ranchi : All-rounder Deepti Sharma grabbed a six-wicket haul and then made some valuable contribution with the bat as the Indian women’s cricket team completed a 3-0 series sweep after thrashing Sri Lanka by seven wickets in the third one-day international here on Friday.
Opting to bat, Sri Lanka had a promising start as Yasoda Mendis (15) and Prasadani Weerakkody (19) added 33 runs for the opening wicket.
However, the tourists struggled against Deepti’s off-break bowling and were eventually bundled out for 112 inside 39 overs at the JSCA International Stadium Complex. Dilani Manodara was the top scorer for her side with 23.
In reply, India recovered from a shaky start and eventually chased down the modest target in 29.3 overs with Veda Krishnamurthy remaining unbeaten on a scintillating 61-run knock.
Deepti, who was adjudged the Player of the Match, also played a pivotal role in steadying her side’s innings by knitting a 70-run stand with Krishnamurthy for the third wicket. She added 28 runs before she was dismissed by Siriwardene.
India had already won the three-match series after defeating the tourists by six wickets in the second match at the same venue on Wednesday. (ANI)
