DEE caught with Rs 40 cr assets

Hyderabad, October 28: In a major catch, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) unearthed disproportionate assets worth over Rs 40 crore belonging to Akula Suri Babu, Deputy Executive Engineer in the office of Srisailam Special Designs Circle, Nampally.

Simultaneous searches conducted at different places, covering his houses and that of his close relatives besides his auditor, revealed that the accused official owned a residential complex (ground + three), 38 flats in three different apartment complexes in Hyderabad, 52.20 acres of agricultural land in West Godavari district and Hyderabad and a 1.2-acre plot at Shamshabad.
He invested Rs 30 lakh in a paints company in Vijayawada, had bank deposits worth Rs 2.25 lakh, bank balances of Rs 5 lakh and three cars worth Rs 9 lakh.

Further, the sleuths found 1.3 kg gold in his house and 890 grams of the yellow metal in his bank locker besides 2.53 kg silver, LIC premiums worth over Rs 2.15 lakh and household articles worth over Rs 10 lakh. Another bank locker is yet to be opened.

Suri Babu had kept 22 documents with his auditor in Eluru which have been seized.

The documentary value of the properties was Rs 4.23 cr, but the market value could be over Rs 40 cr, ACB officials said.
A native of Atlapadu of Nidadavolu mandal in West Godavari District, Suri Babu worked as assistant engineer in Dowleshwaram and Srisailam projects. He was arrested.
