Declare drought as national calamity: TD leader

TDP senior leader Jaipal Yadav has said that the State and Central governments were shedding crocodile tears on the plight of the farmers.

Speaking to media persons here on Saturday, Yadav said the State government was responsible for the farmer’s suicides. He demanded that the Centre declare drought as national calamity.

Stating that Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy has no awareness on farmer’s problems, he alleged that Agriculture Minister Kanna Lakshmi Narayana was engaged in a fight with MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao.

He urged the State government to directly provide input subsidy to farmers for the present season by May 15. He also demanded that the State government reduce fertilizer rates and make them available to the farmers. He also wanted the government to provide interest-free crop loans to farmers in time and rescue them. (NSS)
