Decision to constitute Telangana Wakf Board – Polling on 10th January

Hyderabad: Govt. of Telangana has decided to constitute State Wakf Board and release a schedule of elections. As per the notification, out of the ten member Wakf Board, 6 members would be elected through regular voting whereas four members would be nominated by the Govt. the draft list of voters would be published on 9th December and polling would take place on 10th January 2017. Collector of Hyderabad, Mr. Rahul Bujja has been nominated election officer.

Speaking to newsmen yesterday, Dy. CM of Telangana State, Mr. Mohammed Mahmood Ali released the election schedule. Present on this occasion were Mr. Syed Omer Jaleel, IAS, Secretary, Dept. of Minorities Welfare, Director of Telangana State Urdu Academy, Prof. S.A. Shukoor, CEO of Telangana State Wakf Board, Mr. Mohammed Asadullah, Officer on Special Duty, Mr. Ahmed Mohiuddin, Executive Officer of Wakf Board, Meer Munawar Ali.

Giving the details of the elections , Mr. Mohammed Mahmood Ali told that the last date of presenting claims for the inclusion of names on the election list is 17th December. Voters’ list would be published on 20th December. The last date for filing nomination would be 27th December. The nomination papers would be scrutinized on 29the December. On the same day, the list of eligible candidates would be published. The last of withdrawal would be 31st December. The final list of candidates would be published on 3rd January. Elections would be held on 10th January. The polling would be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The results would be announced on the night of 10th January.

Mr. Mahmood Ali further told that such of the Mutawallis whose income is more than Re. 1 lakh would be eligible to vote. In this manner, 303 Wakf institutions would be eligible to vote. For Wakf Board,6 members would be elected from four categories. From 1st category, a Muslim MP woudl be elected. From the send category two members (Either MLA or MLC) would be elected from Category 3, one Muslim member of the Bar Cuncil would be elected. From the fourth category of Mutawallis and members of managing committees, two members would be elected.
Mr. Mahmood Ali also told that Govt. would nominate four persons from among the social activists (Sunni or Shia), a Govt. official of the cadre of Dy. Secretary. He further told that Govt. of Telangana is trying its level best to get judicial powers for Wakf Board so that complete protection of Wakf properties could be ensured and illegal possessions could be dislodged. He informed that in Telangana State, there are 33 thousand Wakf properties under which 77 thousand acres of land is available.
