Decentralisation paid dividends to Nagaland: Rio

Dimapur, November 30: Acknowledging contributions of two former chief secretaries in channelising social capital of the Nagas into modern development paradigm, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today said the democratic decentralisation programme in the state succeeded due to active participation of the community.

Speaking during the inaugural session of the two-day Nagaland Village Development Boards (VDB) and Communitisation conference at Ganeshnagar, Rio said, “The introduction of VDBs and Communitisation of Public Institutions and Services Act had contributed a lot in changing the face of rural Nagaland.”

The programme has gained worldwide recognition through UN Award for public service in 2008 and also Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in public administration in 2007.
